Local Walks
This page details local attractions between 5 minutes to 15 minutes walk from the farm.
We start with Stanborough Lakes only 5 minutes walk away. The lakes were built in the early 70’s and provided the ‘Hogging’ (Clay used as a base for roads) for the A1M.
After the contractors left, the local council created a wildlife paradise, featuring 2 lakes. The north lake is shallow and is known as the boating lake. On this lake you can hire a row boat, take a leisurely walk around it and feed the ducks, geese, swans and all other wildlife, take the kids to the park or watch the model boats or just lie on the grass.
The south lake is known as the sailing lake and provides various water sports and great fishing, a restaurant and a coffee shop.
For a great day out book a sailing, canoe, or windsurf course on the south lake followed by a picnic or lunch at the Terranova Italian Restaurant. The afternoon could be spent walking around north lake, hire a row boat or play in the park. As you stroll home, you pass The East Restaurant where you can enjoy a drink and a great meal, knowing you are 3 minutes walk from our farm.
Only 10 minutes walk away is one of Lemsford's best kept secrets, Lemsford Springs Nature Reserve. This Reserve is a haven for nature lovers and provides excellent facilities for bird watchers with it's custom- built hide. It is also a great place to walk and enjoy a variety of trees, fauna and wildlife. For the history of Lemsford Springs and Lemsford Click Here
After you have visited Lemsford Springs Nature reserve, take a 5 minute walk to enjoy the beauty of Lemsford Village. The village has no shops, but as Queen Elizabeth I once said, it is 'the most beautiful village in England'. For more about the history of Lemsford, visit our local history group site. We have a picturesque Mill (not open to the public), which dates back to the Doomsday book and two coaching Inns The Sun and The Long Arm and Short Arm, where you can enjoy a drink and a lunchtime or evening meal.
